There was a point in time when wigs, like hair extensions, were something worn so discretely that women never admitted to wearing them. How times have changed! Today, the who’s who of Hollywood and even recording artists not only talk about how much they love them, but also how they allow anyone to switch up their hairstyle with damage, hair loss or a permanent change.
Lace fronts in particular, born on Hollywood movie sets, allowed actors to transform into character and offered such comfort and undetectable wear that they started wearing them when the camera stopped rolling as well!
We rounded up 10 celebrities who wear wigs (and love them) and if they can do it, so can you with confidence!
1: Kylie Jenner
You can’t talk wigs without mentioning the Kardashian sisters. Kylie Jenner has elevated herself into becoming a style, beauty and fashion icon. Back in May of 2016, she had made waves in the third-annual Fresh Faces Issue of Marie Claire when she proclaimed her ability to kickstart hair trend as an early adopter. "I started wigs, and now everyone is wearing wigs. Kim [Kardashian] just used my wig guy last night...I just do whatever I want to do, and people will follow." While not entirely true, she has helped popularize them in a big way and in particular is a fan of lace front wigs saying, “I feel these looks the most realistic when fitted to my head.” We DO agree there!
2: Beyoncé

Queen Bey LOVES to by dynamic when it comes to her hairstyles, to the point that in a 2015 article for Flaunt Magazine she revealed for the first time she has a hair closet to house all her wigs and hair pieces. Yes. A hair closet. According to a 2018 article in Life & Style Magazine she wears wigs, hairpieces and weaves so consistently that she’s only revealed her real hair on two occasions, once in 2013 and this year. But her crown covers not just music, but in helping to mainstream wigs! Vogue’s Shay Ashual, the “Master of Wigs” credited Beyoncé as being the turning point in the industry in a 2018 article. "She made it OK to wear wigs openly, and created a demand for lace-front wigs [more realistic, better quality] that were normally only available in the film and theatre industries. Wig companies saw this as an opportunity to up their game and make it into the mainstream."
4: Salma Hayek
Oscar-nominated actress Salma Hayek is no stranger to wigs, making waves on social media during the 2017 Paris Fashion Week when she chronicled her transformation into a blonde bob on her Instagram. She later stepped out to the Altuzarra show in a pink pantsuit with warm pink makeup and made the fashion sections of magazines everywhere.
5: Lady Gaga
There is no one more daring, varied and boundary pushing when it comes to style like Lady Gaga. This past summer during lockdown she along with several celebrity gal pals started a pink hair trend that endured all summer long. In an August 29th photo she shared on Instagram, she congratulated her friend Ariana Grande on hitting 200 million followers while sporting a waist length pink wig.
6: Sia
Mention the name of this 44-year-old Australian singer/songwriter and you immediately envision a massive face covering wig. The reason for constant face covering is a simple one: privacy. After beginning her career in the 90’s she didn’t start to break until 2013, at which point she quickly grew frustrated with being recognized in public, furthermore it helped with her longevity as a singer in an industry where age is everything. Always bold with her choices of color and texture, her wig is part of her stage personality and she wouldn’t be without it.
7: Jennifer Lopez
Like Beyoncé, the 51-year-old singer has such a long and historic love for wigs and hairpieces that she too has an entire room in her home dedicated to them! Back in October she shared an afternoon picture of her trying on a long blonde mermaid-length wig in her wig room. More recently, on Christmas Day her longtime friend and hairstylist Chris Appleton shared a photo of Jlo in a blonde platinum bob with a festive hair stencil, proof positive that her love for hair options knows no season!
8: Cardi B

Her career has come a long way since Love and Hip Hop: New York, but today Cardi B has become a living legend when it comes to bold wig choices, in both color and design. Back in April her bubblegum pink wig topped with a ribbon of hair went viral. She achieved the look by using half the wig length to create a bow on her head, leaving the remainder in a low ponytail. Later in August Cardi revealed a heart shaped wig created by her go-to hair stylist Tokyo Stylez. The reveal of which picked up 18 million views, and last month it was revealed this creation was part of a new Snapchat show called “Queen of Stylez” focusing around high fashion wigs.
