In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln, mired with the ongoing horror of the Civil War, sat at his desk and opened a letter. It was yet another plea from a New Hampshire woman named Sarah Josepha Hale asking him to declare a national day of Thanksgiving. Hale had been persistent, campaigning for over 36 years in editorials, publications and letters to governors, senators, presidents and other politicians for the federal holiday. Up until this point in time it was largely a state holiday in some northern states and was virtually unheard of in the south. Hale believed that the unifying measure of a single day where friends, family, fathers and sons, and neighbors joining together to give thanks and simply be together was something very much needed in a country torn apart by war. Lincoln agreed and signed the holiday into law in 1863 and the core of that belief, that it’s a day for us to give thanks for each other, for friends and loved ones and even the opportunities life has given us.

It’s at this time of year, before the hustle bustle of the holiday season, that I stop for a moment and give thanks for all that we have and for all of you. This is also a time of reflection and the past two years have been tough for most everyone, everywhere. The beauty industry for the first time in modern history was impacted with salons being shut down or with minimal appointments. For many of you who love wigs and extensions, you’ve noticed backorders and shortages with products made with raw hair from many countries. I am thankful to say that we have been lucky in being able to serve you with top quality ethically sourced hair from India, with plenty of stock on hand to meet your needs in light of challenges all industries are facing with their supply chains. Yes, these last few years have been hard, but they’ve also allowed many of us to take stock of ourselves and what’s important in life.

Thanksgiving has always been a favorite holiday of mine, even back in India as a little girl when we celebrated harvest festivals such as Lohri (in the north of India) or Pongal (in the south). The traditional colors of this season, oranges and yellows add warmth to our home, ushering in a sense of hope and optimism of the year ahead. My husband Guy and I are grateful for our talented team here at Perfect Locks who have weathered these past few years with us and stayed positive and kept things light and fun for all of our customers. We are thankful for our family and their ability to always serve you and bring a smile to your beautiful face and pair that face with the hair of your dreams.

While you tuck into your meal, we’ll be busy cooking away with our own here in California. When you think about it, it is the act of cooking together and joining hands and breaking bread over a meal created with love that melts away all the stress and anxiety of everyday life. In many ways all those years ago Sarah Josepha Hale was right, that this day and this time of year is about remembering to stop planning, building, working and executing to unplug, cook together and take a moment to love one another. Love is what I built this on and I hope you always feel that in every product that arrives in your home with our seal as that promise.

We are now kicking off our biggest sale of the year to give back to you for all you give us. Check out our Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals and if you need help finding just the right gift for yourself or someone else…reach out. We’re always here.

From our family to you and yours, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving,

Priyanka Swamy
